Choosing your Dog PhotographerChoosing your Dog Photographer
With the technological development in phones and cheap cameras, taking photos these days is easier then ever. So if you are going to choose a furtastic photograher, what should you look out for? What is important? Here are some tips to help you in your search?
1) ITS ALL ABOUT THE DOGS Seeing dogs as they are and capturing them in their goofy silliness, jumping with joy, chasing leafs and howling in the wind. This is how dogs are and this is what I want to capture for you. I am a Dog Mum myself, covered in dog hair and slobber with paw prints on my jeans. I don’t mind laying in a muddy puddle to capture the perfect reflection of your dog, kneeling in brambles or making funny noises in the middle of Trafalgar Square. This is me. Dogs are me. 2) STYLE Check the portfolio! A Photo is Art. It is the vision of the person behind the camera. When choosing a photographer, their photos should make you laugh and smile and show a variety of colourful sharp photos of happy dogs having the time of their life. What style of photos will show of your furry companion and your lifestyle? Do you prefer portrait, urban, nature shots or action photos or a mix of all? Do you like to see your dog having fun outdoors, peeking out of the fern, chasing balls, peeking behind trees or do you prefer a simple studio shot? Those are important question to think about. Who will be telling your dogs story?
3) PRINT OR DIGITAL I grew up with prints and artwork and I am a true believer that photos have to be printed, hanging on walls and have to be printed in books. Most Professional Dog Photographer offer you both, printed and digital products. What would you like to do with the photos from your shoot? Do you really want them all on a CD, just to be forgotten in a drawer? Or would you like to have your photos printed and framed, hanging on your walls and making your smile? Just imagine having a bad day and looking at the big Framed Print of you dog smiling at you with his tongue out, being happy having had a woodland adventure with you. I know your bad day is forgotten in no time. I am very lucky, that almost all of my clients share the love of Wall Art with me, plus they do get a watermarked version of their photos to share on social media as well :) #printrevolution 4) SKILL To produce great photos, your photographer will have heavy invested in training and equipment, to produce the photos you will love. Your photographer will know how to set up a photo, competition, colours, light, have knowledge in editing and offer you advice about printing and will designing your Wall Art with you. Dog Photographers will also have a knowledge about animal behaviour, they are able to capture your pet perfectly, without any stress.
5) PAWSOME CONNECTIONS Some of my furry clients had a bad start in life, which means I have to spend more time to get to know them and to earn their trust before picking up my camera. But I feel very lucky that all my furry clients want to give me sloppy kissed five minuted after we met and I feel very honoured to have their trust and love. You want to find a photographer who gets dogs (and cats), loves them, shakes paw and wet kissed - basally someone who will connect with your dog and get their tails wagging. 6) EMOTIONS A photo of a dog is not just a photo. You need to fall in love with it. You need to feel the emotion. The photo needs to make you smile, laugh or even cry. The photo needs to capture the unique character of your dog and show of how awesome your dog is. Show of their loving eyes and their goofiness, how naught they can be and how much fun it is to be dog.
7) FAMILY My dogs are my family. They ruling our house and life. This means, they deserve a place on your Wall(s). Have their photos printed BIG and not just having a small 6x4 print in the corner. Plus, visitors love to see photos of dogs, it makes people happy and smile and gets conversations going. 8) UNIQUE ARTWORK Professional Photographer taking pride in the products their are offering and they represent their style. Most of their Wall Art is unique and you won’t be able to purchase those products anywhere on the high street. I am working with small printing labs based in the UK, who only serve a number of professional photographers. My products are of the highest quality, are archival and will last for years to come. You won’t receive an unfinished print or an unframed collage. My products come ready framed to your home, and there is no need to search for a framer or frames. So do you want to own a unique handmade piece of Wall Art showing of your furry companion or are you happy with a flimsy colourless 6x4 print from the high street? #beunique
9) PRICE A professional Photo Shoot is an investment and those memories are priceless. I know, the price is very important. But you know the saying “You get what you pay for”. Be aware that the £50 photographer who gives you all photos or the £25 Studio Photographer, might not run a legitimate business and/or is not insured. They probably not offering you professional and high quality products, or want to sell you cheap high priced products. So take a moment and think if you want to have your dogs photos printed on a high quality unique lasting product hanging on your walls or do you want to have a bland colourless print or a CD which will end up in a drawer? 10) GIVING BACK For me, Giving Back is very important. I am volunteering for the HULA Animal Rescue and also the RSPCA, taking photos of their Dogs and Cats, who didn’t had the best start in life. These animals deserve so much love and taking their photo and showing of their character, helping them to find their forever home, is what make me tick. I also donate £5 from each session to the rescues of my choice and help fundraising every year.
